Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Hello Hofstra Students,

I am new to blogging but up to the challenge!  I am writing my first blog and using it as an opportunity to introduce myself to you.  I am Lorraine Massiah and I joined The Career Center staff in January 2013.  I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Community Health Education and I have a Master of Science in Education in School Counseling.  Prior to my current position as assistant director at Hofstra, I have worked both in Suffolk County and NYC as a high school guidance counselor.  However, you will all know me as the liaison to the School of Education and the School of Health and Human Services, as well as, your friendly career counselor.

The transition from working high school to higher education brings new challenges.  One of which is tailoring my advice to the college student.  I will start with the three things I wish I knew while I was in college.  So here goes:
  •          Know your academic advisors
  •          Get involved in campus activities
  •          Know where The Career Center is and the services we have to offer

I would love to continue the conversation with you so come on over and say hello.  I look forward to meeting you and if you have any “BLOG TIPS” for me I would love to hear them!

Lorraine Massiah
