Hofstra Handshake and the Career Hub

If you haven't heard about them, we’re very excited to share the launch of our two new systems – The Career Hub and the Handshake system.  Hopefully you’ve had a chance to check them out, but if not, this blog is for you.

Let’s start with the Career Hub.  This is now your first stop for career resources.  All of the resources to which we subscribe on your behalf can be found here.  So, whether you are trying to decide on a major, explore companies and industries or find positions, start here!

In the Career Hub you can also schedule appointments with our counselors, find resume templates and more.  The Career Hub is mobile friendly, o you can visit it on your computer, tablet or your phone.  You’ll need to log in with your 700# and password (just like you’re logging into the portal).

Now let’s talk about Handshake.  This replaces the old “Pride-CMS” system, and you should think of it as your home base for jobs and internship postings, company contacts, event listings and more.

We think you’ll find this to be a great improvement over the older system. But, there are a few important differences to point out:

  •  When you first log in, the system walks you through creating a profile.  You should plan to complete it fully and professionally in the same way you would for a LinkedIn profile.  Why?  Because you can then give permission for employers to search your profile and they can recruit you this way!
  • The more you use this system, the more it learns your interests and will make recommendations to you.   So, get into it and starting searching!
  • Make sure you upload a resume.  You can upload as many versions as you’d like, but it’s important to have at least one default resume in the system – both so you can apply to positions, but also if you give us permission to give it to appropriate employers, we’ll do some of your job and internship work on your behalf.
