Several years ago, I decided
that it was time for me to really figure out what I wanted to be when I grew
up. The full-time jobs that I had since
graduating college had all, in my mind, been temporary jobs until I really
found something that I wanted to make a career out of. I contacted my college alma mater’s career
center and made an appointment to speak with a career counselor. But by the time the day of the appointment
came, I had already begun to consider a career as a career counselor. So, I
ended up spending my appointment time with her asking questions about what she
did in her job, what qualities she felt were needed to succeed in her job, and
how I would best gain experience in the field of career counseling. That
session was instrumental in my decision to go back to school and pursue a
degree in Career Development. And the
rest, as they say, is history.
Sometimes all it takes is a
great conversation with someone to help you start your career path. I am happy
to share that Hofstra
is about to launch the ASK program. ASK is Hofstra's online
Alumni-Student Konnection program, where alumni and current students can
connect and dialogue about careers, industry trends, new opportunities, balancing
work and life, what it's like to work at a particular company, and
other career related questions.
By
participating in the ASK program, you will communicate directly with Hofstra
alumni who are interested in discussing their careers, build your professional
contact base, expand your knowledge of various careers fields, job titles and
industries and learn about new trends, opportunities and ways to advance your
career.
So
get started today! Take it from me; you
will be glad that you did! For more information, please visit ASK
Alumni-Student Konnection.
