First off, I’d like to thank all of The Career Center staff,
our fabulous employers, and most importantly the Hofstra students for a
fantastic Fall Career Fair yesterday! We had a great turnout – 394 students came
through the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex to meet with
representatives from 75 different companies!
So you went to the fair, spoke to employers, and gave out
your resumes; now it’s time to kick back, watch a movie, and wait for the
interview offers to pour in, right?
…Wrong!
Just because the fair is behind you doesn’t mean your
networking efforts stop! Hopefully, the fair energized you and got you
motivated to hit the ground running even harder in your career search! Here are
some tips to keep you on track after the doors to the Arena have closed!
Send a thank-you to anyone you networked with!
Did you make sure to get a business card
from all the representatives you visited? Great! Send an email or give a phone
call to let them know that you appreciated them taking the time to speak with
you at the fair, and restate your interest in their company! Following up on a
meeting keeps your name and voice fresh in their minds when they go through the
many resumes they’ve received—make sure they remember to pick out yours!
Look on Pride-CMS for Resume Drops or Job
Postings from companies that were at the fair!
In your Pride-CMS account, you can search
for specific employers by using their name as a search keyword. You can also
click on the “Employers” tab and look up a specific company in our Employer
Directory to see if any positions are available.
Hone your skills at all aspects of the career
search process by visiting The Career Center!
When you find a position to which you’d like
to apply, make sure your resume and cover letter are in tip-top shape by
dropping in to our Quick Question Hours, Monday-Thursday from 2pm-4pm and
Friday from 11am-1pm. If you’ve been offered an interview, attend one of our
Effective Interviewing Workshops or schedule an appointment with a counselor to
have a Mock Interview to ensure you make the best impression possible!
See? It’s that easy to keep the momentum going as you move
further along your Path of Pride. You’re already well on your way! Good luck,
and we’ll see you soon!
