Does Your Resume Need Some Spring Cleaning?

YES! It's Spring Break, Hofstra! I hope you're enjoying some well-deserved relaxation time.

It seemed like it would never come after the winter weather we've had... but the first day of Spring is tomorrow! Spring is a great time to clean up from the clutter and dreariness of the "winter blues," and your resume is no exception!

Last year, Careerealism posted this great article about how to spruce up your resume as you dive into a new season of your career search, and I think it's really helpful! Make sure that if you started a new internship or involvement experience this semester, or are taking a new class that's relevant to the type of job you're looking for, you add it to your resume! Don't undersell yourself or your wonderful experiences!

Want us to take a look at what you've added once you're done? We're here to help, even during break!
Come into our Quick Question hours from 2pm-4pm Monday - Thursday and 11am-1pm Friday, or call our office at 516-463-6060 to schedule an appointment with one of our counselors!

Happy Spring Cleaning! I hope to see you soon!

It's All About Marketing: Sell Yourself to Employers!

I always tell the students that come into my office that their resume is one of the best resources they have in marketing themselves to employers. Your resume should give a comprehensive picture not only of what you have done, but also how you fulfilled the duties of the postition and what things you got out of the experience (such as skills, knowledge, and results). One of the ways I advise students to do this is by using the S.T.A.R. method, where you talk about your experiences in the context of a Situation you encountered, a Task you had to accomplish, the Actions you took to get the job done, and the Result you got out of it!

We have a great tip sheet on the S.T.A.R. method on our website (check it out by clicking here!) but there are always more steps you can take to make sure your business-of-one is completely on the market. Careerealism is putting on a great Webinar on Wednedsay, March 5th at 1pm to talk about these tactics and give you the best resources available to market yourself... and the best part is that it's free!

I'll be watching on the 5th... will you?
See what it's about and register by clicking here, and then show those employers what you've got!
