Interviewing the Interviewer!

On Tuesday, The Career Center staff was lucky enough to spare sometime between resume critiques, mock interviews and counseling sessions to engage in a little staff appreciation. Following our weekly meeting, we had the “F.A.B. Awards,” in honor of our F.A.B.ulous Director, Fredrick A. Burke! Each staff member was recognized for their role in the office, and of course we couldn’t resist infusing a little bit of our humor to specialize each award.

Take a look at our “Top Banana” award granted to each staff member:

Overall, it was a great mid-afternoon break, and the F.A.B.ulous lunch from our favorite local Italian restaurant was the perfect way to top off the event! More importantly, the event reminded me of how important it is to take time to appreciate co-workers and recognize their contributions. Working in an environment where your feel acknowledged for all your hard work is invaluable to not only your happiness, but also your productivity and the cohesiveness of the staff.

In order to determine if a particular company or office is the right fit for you, ask questions during the interview to gain some perspective on the work environment to determine if you would enjoy joining the team!

Ask a questions like:
What is the retention rate of individuals in the position for which I am interviewing?
Why did you join and stay in the firm?
What do you like about working for this organization?
What is the work environment like?

By asking critical questions, such as these, you will gain a better idea of whether this is an organization you want to commit to!
REMEMBER: They aren’t just interviewing you, you are interviewing them!!

A special thank you to:
 Deanna Rodin, Associate Director

Chaundra Daniels, Assistant Director

For coordinating our lovely staff appreciation event!!
